How to prepare for CSS exam 2012 in Pakistan

  • Rai Shahnawaz

  • In Pakistan, an increasing number of academies have opened up to prepare students for the most difficult examination in the country. Most of these academies are situated in Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad though a few have also recently situated in Hyderabad and Sukkur. Below is a list of recognized academies, known to produce good results, by region; List of Academies/tutors in Lahore with contact details:
    Kips College LahoreKips College Lahore
Forces Academy - LahoreForces Academy - Lahore
    KIPS College FaisalabadKIPS College Faisalabad
    KIPS College GujranwalaKIPS College Gujranwala
Officers Open Academy LahoreOfficers Open Academy Lahore
    KIPS College SargodhaKIPS College Sargodha

For students, who intend to prepare without the help of academies, studying at a library can be of benefit due to the availability of reference material, books, and national and international journals. Also, the chances of distraction are quite low in this case and the environment makes the library a sound place to study.
A few weeks before the examination, students tend to study for at least 5 hours a day though some can average 8 hours per day. Group study can also be of benefit for friends who intend to take the examination together.
Students must identify their weaknesses. Those from villages or cult sacks, tend to be weak in English and a generous amount of time must be devoted to mastering their English abilities. Since the compulsory courses must be taken, students must master those compulsory courses which they have had trouble understand previously as well. Most students, from well establish schools tend to lag at general knowledge and current affairs courses and must gain tutorial help from teachers or books to remove such hindrances. Most students who have taken the exam in the past have recommended the Doggar’s ISSB Guide and Dogar’s AD or SI Guide.
WHEN TO START PREPARING FOR CSS EXAMINATIONS 2012:
It may be a fair strategy to begin preparation for the compulsory courses first. Sometimes, the lesser the time available for preparation of the exam the better the chance of success, the reason being the to-the-point study, accessing only the relevant topics and syllabus thus concentrating on the most important and likely questions when the time frame is short and limited. Also, as previously mentioned, the exam can be given thrice by an individual. Hence, if he/she feels that the time frame is short for preparation, they can always give it again, the next time more equipped with the necessary details of the exam, its format and proper allocation of time.

CSS exam eligibility criteria in Pakistan

  • Rai Shahnawaz

  • AGE REQUIREMENTS:

All candidates must be between the ages of 21 to 28 years of age to take the CSS examination 2012. In January 2011, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani rejected an appeal by the Establishment Division to increase the upper age limit of eligibility on grounds of the fact that the examination must only be taken by the country’s youth, with eager and fresh minds. As a result the age limit could not be increased and the same will be applicable for the CSS 2012 examinations.

    The upper age limit can be relaxed to 30 years only in case of those candidates falling in the following groups;

Candidates belonging to the Buddhist Community or a Scheduled Caste
Candidates who are permanent residents of Balochistan, Dera Ismail Khan and Peshawar inclusive of the Frontier States of Chitral, Dir, Swat and Amb
Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur Districts, Mardan and Hazara Divisions, and lastly, the Upper Tanawal area of Hazara Division
Permanent residents of Azad Kashmir, who are currently residing in Pakistan, and residents of certain northern areas of Gilgit, Diamir, Baltistan, Ghizar and Ghanche
For candidates who are currently government servants inclusive of the government servants in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, who have rendered not less than two years of continuous government service.
Note: The age limit shall only be relaxed for the mentioned candidates upon the submission of a certificate (Annexure-B of Application) which must be government issued.

    • Matriculation Certificate
    • School Leaving Certificate
    • An Attested Birth Certificate
    • Once a year of birth has been verified by the FPSC, no changes will be allowed in any subsequent examination.

    ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:

All candidates must hold a Grade C bachelors’ degree issued by an HEC registered university of Pakistan. For overseas students, an equivalent degree of the same qualification can be accepted however, the final decision lies with the Pakistani Commission.
Holders of a Third Division Bachelors’ Degree can only sit for the examination if they are joint holders of a higher division Master’s Degree.

The domicile claimed by a candidate and accepted by the Government at the time of entry into Government service shall be treated as final throughout his/her service career and no subsequent change in his/ her domicile will be recognized for the purpose of terms and conditions of his/her service including his/her allocation and liability to transfer.

A candidate who has married a person who is not a citizen of Pakistan shall not be eligible for appointment provided that a person who marries an Indian national with the prior permission of Government may be regarded as eligible for appointment.

A candidate having dual Nationality must Surrender his/her Foreign Nationality and inform the Government before joining Civil Services Academy.

CSS exam in Pakistan application process

  • Rai Shahnawaz

  • Candidates, who fall into the eligibility requirements stated above, can apply for the CSS 2012 examinations. CSS exam 2012 applications will be invited all over Pakistan in the month of November or December every year. Federal Public Service Commission of Pakistan (FPSC) has already set the date of the examination for Saturday, February 25, 2012.

Government employees who fulfill the requirement laid down for appearing in CSS exams 2012 are eligible to appear in exams if permitted by the competent authority in their departments or offices. No Government employee shall be competent to apply without the prior permission in writing from his/her department/office as the case may be, and such permissions must accompany the application. Candidates who join Government service after submitting their applications for admission to the examination should also submit the Departmental permission immediately thereafter.

A candidate, who after submitting such Departmental permission, joins Civil Service Academy or is transferred to another Department, should also obtain the permission of that Department and submit the same to the Commission as soon as possible.

A candidate who has left Government service should submit with his/her application the original as well as a copy of his/her discharge/service certificate.

A candidate who has been dismissed from Government or semi Government Service will not be eligible for admission to the examination. If a great number of candidates apply for the CSS 2012 so the decision of the authority would be final about the limitation of the candidates to appear in the CSS exams 2012.

If the Federal Public Service Commission of Pakistan (FPSC) imposed a limit and the number of applied candidates exceeds that limit, the commission will select from applicants. This selection will be based on the accurate representation of provinces/areas of Pakistan as well as the various age concessions.

    CSS exam in Pakistan introduction

  • Rai Shahnawaz

  • Pakistan is in dire need of intelligent, academically sound and knowledgeable leaders, and political representatives, who can take decisions on behalf of the people, in light of their commendable qualities. As a result the providers of civil services in the country are selected via an examination, now formally known as the Central Superior Services of Pakistan (CSS) which was made binding by the government in the year 1973, under Article 240. The examination tests students on a diverse number of courses, which vary in their content and difficulty level.

Due to the ever increasing scope and popularity of the CSS examination, students belonging to the provinces of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are travelling to the bigger cities to prepare for the cut-throat examinations taking place in 2012.
